Kathleen Avalon

Kathleen moved to Santa Cruz as a young girl in the 60’s. Growing up, her parents nurtured her free spirited, creative soul and supported her in all her creative endeavors, fostering a sense of imagination and the courage to pursue her happiness. At every opportunity Kathleen explored the expressive arts including drawing, painting, writing, singing and dancing. Kathleen received a formal Teacher Training Course in Waldorf Education and became the first kindergarten teacher at our local Santa Cruz Waldorf School. She later furthered her studies in England, training in the art of Eurythmy, a movement class offered in the Waldorf curriculum. In England she met her future husband, they returned to Santa Cruz, married and started their family. Motherhood became her sacred path and she devoted her time to nurturing her family, running playgroups from her home. She continued on this path, working from home, in private schools and public schools, in camps, and retreats, running creative arts programs, for preschoolers, homeschoolers and their families, working with all ages.  Her current love is storytelling, using story dolls that she hand felts. She is thrilled to be offering this storytelling gift at the Discovery Family Center for you and your families to enjoy.
