Creative Discipline for Young Children with Stephen Spitalny

Have you tried 'everything'? Still looking for creative ways to reach your young child? Learn how to develop a communication style that makes for fewer conflicts and easier resolution in your interactions with young children. See how to go beyond negotiations and bribery. The basic theme is discovering how to truly connect with young children.  Each session will begin with a short presentation by Steve followed by an opportunity to dialog about your particular challenges and struggles. Steve and the other participants can offer suggestions so you will go home with new tools for your life with young children, and more patience and calm to deal with the stressful situations that may arise. 

Discovery Preschool and Family Center director, Sara Balla will attend, dedicated to life-long learning and an interest in improving communication within her own family!

Mindful Family Living

This workshop is led by Sara Balla, Director of Discovery Preschool and Family Center. Sara holds her Masters Degree in Education from UC Santa Cruz. She is a certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. As a parent of two young children, she has dedicated time to building her awareness in her own daily life. Sara has facilitated many parent workshops and helps parents consider their own vision for how they want to be as a family. With a vision in place, parents can make those small daily decisions with more peace and ease.  

This is a family workshop that is designed to explore techniques and strategies to bring peace and positivity into the home. With our daily lives getting busier than ever, finding ways to be present can give all of us more peace of mind. This workshop is designed for parents and children ages 4 through 11 years old.

This is a four week class session on Mondays from 3-4:45p COST: $140 per family

Parent Support Circle for Families with Toddlers

Join Aine Kahn, MA MFTI to discuss topics related to the world of your toddler! Sometimes parents need that support they found with their newborn, two or three years later when their baby begins displaying some of those toddler tendencies. It can sometimes feel overwhelming looking into the face of your screaming 3 year old or sobbing 2 year old! This is a support circle designed to connect families and support this stage of parenting. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, share stories, laugh and feel some relief as you meet new friends. This group is for parents only (non crawling babies are welcome to attend). Childcare provided for your wee ones (free with membership or $6 for non-members).

This is a drop-in group on Mondays from 10:15-11:00am. COST: $7

Rebuild Your Core with Christine Pini

Are you ready to exercise and eager to rebuild those abdominal muscles? This class will help tighten your abs, pelvic floor muscles and lower back all in a fun, community atmosphere with like minded moms! Safe and recommended for women after c-section births, but just as beneficial for women bouncing back from "typical" child births. You will feel yourself getting stronger, your energy will improve and your self-esteem will soar. All exercises in this class are intended for new moms and respect the need for slow rebuilding of the abdominal muscles. Rest assure this class is one all moms will feel comfortable and confident attending!

This class is focused on helping you do just that by guiding you through the process of creating clear, achievable wellness goals,constructing a cohesive plan and building your confidence in your choices. You will learn:

  • Achieving a healthy balance for yourself and your baby. 
  • How to create clear, achievable goals for you and your growing family
  • The principles of mindfulness in guiding your everyday choices
  • Explore different approaches to baby food 

This class is for women in all stages of pregnancy AND for new moms curious of the best ways to nourish their children and themselves!

Meet the Masters with Kimberly Hardin

Young art students will be introduced to several different art masters and their styles. We will look at artists like Van Gogh, chat about their style and then paint a similar picture; for example, Starry Night. No experience necessary, this is a skill building class. Drawing, perspective and color mixing will be part of each lesson, bringing the visual art common core standards to life in these fabulous, hands-on art projects. Your child will be so proud of the work they take home!

This class is designed for children in grades 4th and 5th.

This six week session meets twice a week, Tuesdays 4:30-6:00p and Wednesdays 2:00-3:30p.

Circles, Squares and Triangles with Kimberly Hardin

Circle, Square, Triangle... More than meets the eye!

This class is designed for Pre-K and Kinder age children (3-5 year olds)

Children will love exploring shapes through art! The series of hands-on sensory based art classes will include preschool friendly drawing, color-mixing, painting and more. Children will leave the class knowing how to use basic shapes to create and draw animals, people, still life and even landscapes! This one hour class is a six-week long themed based camp, held every Wednesday with Kimberly Hardin. Parents are welcome to attend the class with their child or use our adult friendly Salotto- "Lounge" to sip some coffee and/ or use our free wifi while your child creates!

Creating Connection With Your Teen with Aine Kahn

The Creating Connection With your Teen workshop is designed to function as an educational forum and a support network for parents of teenagers.  The goal of this workshop is for parents to access a support network of other parents with teens; to create more connection and enhance positive communication with their teen; to learn effective ways to set boundaries and expectations; gain more knowledge about the basic neurobiology of the developing teenage brain and how that relates to social emotional development and the development of the family system; and to develop effective coping skills and to feel more empowered to navigate through the often tumultuous landscape of parent-teen relations. 

Each of the six sessions will address a specific topic.  The content of each class will include some mindfulness exercises, informative education, personal check-ins, role-playing or other varied techniques to explore best-suited interventions.  

This empowering and inspiring workshop cost is $250 for the six week session with Aine Kahn, MFTi.

Go Girl! with Aine Kahn

The Go Girl! workshop is designed for teen girls aged 11-14.  Participants in this workshop will emerge with a greater knowledge of how to access their own personal empowerment while navigating the delicate and often challenging landscape of being a teenage girl.  In the six weeks, the girls will learn about and have a chance to discuss a variety of topics including identifying healthy and unhealthy relationship patterns, learning basic effective communication skills, body image and self-esteem issues.  These topics will be explored in a confidential and supportive environment utilizing expressive arts techniques and mindfulness exercises. This six week program will become your teen's favorite part of her day as she spends her time relating to her peers and building a relationship with our well-loved group facilitator Aine Kahn, MFTi.

The cost is $200 for the six weeks
